Design & Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Installations Skills Bootcamp
This course supports electricians in gaining specialist skills for installing electric vehicle (EV) charging points. Aligned with national standards, the bootcamp ensures industry-recognised competence and includes mental health training to help self-employed professionals manage isolation and stress while contributing to the green energy transition.

This Skills Bootcamp is designed for employed or self-employed qualified electricians looking to expand their knowledge and expertise in the installation of electric vehicle (EV) charging points. The course aligns with the National Occupational Standard Assessment Programme, ensuring individuals can demonstrate competence in this growing field.
As part of our commitment to green skills and the drive towards net zero, this bootcamp also includes a mental health qualification to support self-employed professionals in managing the challenges of working alone and in promoting general mental health awareness.
Participants must be qualified electricians.
No prior experience in EV charging installations is required, but a basic understanding of electrical systems is recommended.Duration:

The bootcamp is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining classroom-based and remote sessions, with guided learning hours facilitated by expert instructors.
The course covers the following key areas:
Electric Vehicle Charging Installation
Introduction to electric vehicles – types, characteristics, and safety considerations.
Overview of EV charging – charging modes, requirements, and restrictions.
Electrical installation requirements – supply, earthing, planning permission, explosive atmospheres, protection, labelling, and control.
Protection against open PEN conductor faults.
Integration into prosumers’ electrical installations – reverse feeding into the installation or back to the grid.
Inspection, testing, and certification – commissioning, DNO paperwork, and risk assessments.
System testing, fault finding, and examination.
Mental Health Awareness
Understanding mental health and its impact.
Supporting individuals with mental ill health.
Creating a mentally healthy work environment.
Upon successful completion of the bootcamp, learners will receive:
Level 3 Award in Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation
Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace
These certifications enhance employability and provide a solid foundation for those wishing to specialise in EV charging installations within the electrical industry.
