The MSc Big Data and Data Science Technology is designed for graduates who want to develop advanced skills in data science, big data, and machine learning. The course teaches students how to collect, manage, analyse, and visualise large and complex datasets to solve real business problems. You will study topics such as programming, big data analytics, cloud computing, machine learning, cybersecurity, and business intelligence.
Students gain practical experience using industry-standard tools, including Python, SQL, SPSS, Power BI, TensorFlow, and cloud platforms such as Google Cloud or Microsoft Azure. Teaching includes lectures, workshops, practical activities, and real business projects that help develop technical, analytical, and research skills.
Applicants should normally have a minimum 2:2 honours degree, or an equivalent qualification, from a recognised university. The course is suitable for graduates who want to build specialist knowledge in big data and data science technologies. Applicants whose first language is not English must have an IELTS score of 6.5, with no individual score below 5.5, or an accepted equivalent qualification.
Applications are considered individually, and relevant work experience may also be taken into account where appropriate. Students should have an interest in data analysis, programming, problem-solving, and digital technologies to gain the maximum benefit from the programme.
