MSc Computer Science

The MSc Computer Science is a conversion degree for graduates from non-computing backgrounds. Students develop practical skills in programming, software engineering, databases, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and web development, preparing them for careers in software development, IT, data management, and other areas of the technology industry.

  • The MSc Computer Science is a conversion course designed for graduates who have little or no previous experience in computing. The programme provides a strong foundation in computer science by combining practical learning with theoretical knowledge. Students study topics such as programming, software engineering, databases, web application development, computer systems, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, and research methods.

Teaching includes lectures, tutorials, seminars, and practical lab sessions that help students build technical and problem-solving skills. Throughout the course, students develop the ability to design software, analyse computing problems, and create effective technology solutions. A major individual project allows students to apply their knowledge to a real computing challenge.

  • Applicants must have a minimum 2:2 honours degree (or equivalent) in any subject except computing.

The course is designed for graduates who want to move into computer science from another academic background. Applicants whose first language is not English, or whose previous degree was not taught in English, must demonstrate English language ability with IELTS 6.0, with no individual component below 5.5, or an accepted equivalent qualification.

Every application is considered individually, taking into account academic qualifications and relevant experience where appropriate. Applicants who are unsure whether they meet the entry requirements are encouraged to contact the admissions team for advice.
