BA (Hons) Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing with Foundation Year
This Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing degree helps you understand counselling theories, mental health, and psychological wellbeing. You'll develop communication, listening, and critical thinking skills, preparing you for careers in mental health or further professional training.

The BA (Hons) Counselling, Mental Health and Wellbeing is designed for students who want to develop a strong understanding of counselling, mental health, and psychological wellbeing. Throughout the course, you will explore the main counselling approaches used in the UK, including Humanistic, Psychodynamic, and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), while learning how these theories are applied in different settings.
You will develop practical skills in communication, active listening, empathy, and professional practice, alongside a deeper understanding of mental health and emotional wellbeing. The course also helps you build valuable transferable skills, including critical thinking, ethical decision-making, teamwork, and self-awareness.
Although this degree does not qualify you to practise as a professional counsellor, it provides an excellent foundation for postgraduate study and careers in mental health, wellbeing, community support, education, social care, and other people-focused professions.
We welcome applications from students with a wide range of educational and professional backgrounds. Whether you are progressing directly from education or returning after a break, we consider every application individually.
