BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering with Foundation Year

Develop the technical knowledge and practical skills needed for a career in mechanical engineering. This degree combines engineering principles, mathematics, design, and problem-solving with practical projects, preparing you to develop solutions, analyse complex systems, and contribute to industries including manufacturing, automotive, energy, aerospace, and engineering design.

  • This BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering with Foundation Year is designed to provide you with the knowledge, technical expertise, and practical skills needed for a successful career in mechanical engineering. The Foundation Year introduces key engineering principles, mathematics, and problem-solving approaches, helping you build confidence before progressing to degree-level study.

Throughout the programme, you will explore areas such as engineering design, mechanics, materials, manufacturing processes, mathematical modelling, and the analysis of complex engineering systems. Through practical projects, design activities, and real-world engineering challenges, you will learn how to apply theory to develop effective solutions.

The course also helps you build essential professional skills, including communication, teamwork, project management, and independent learning.

  • Level 3 qualifications must include a relevant subject, such as Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering.

Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above (or equivalent), including English, Mathematics, and Science.

Applications from candidates with relevant industrial experience or alternative qualifications will be considered.
