BEng (Hons) Software Engineering with Foundation Year

Build the knowledge and practical skills needed for a career in software engineering. This degree combines programming, systems analysis, software design, databases, and cyber security with hands-on projects, preparing you to develop, test, and maintain innovative software solutions for businesses and organisations across a wide range of industries.

  • This BEng (Hons) Software Engineering with Foundation Year is designed to give you the technical knowledge, practical experience, and professional skills needed for a successful career in software engineering. The Foundation Year helps you develop essential academic, digital, and study skills before progressing to degree-level learning.


    Throughout the programme, you will explore every stage of the software development lifecycle, from analysing user requirements and designing software solutions to programming, testing, deployment, and ongoing maintenance. You will gain practical experience in software development, systems analysis, database design, cyber security, and software engineering principles while working with industry-relevant technologies and development methods.


    The course also develops valuable transferable skills, including problem-solving, teamwork, communication, and project management.

  • Minimum of two GCE A Levels (or equivalent) in any subject.


    Five GCSEs at Grade C/4 or above, including English Language and Mathematics (or equivalent).

    Applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate English language proficiency, typically IELTS 5.0 with no component below 4.5 (or equivalent).


    Applicants may be required to attend an interview and/or submit a portfolio where appropriate.

    Applications from candidates with relevant work experience or non-traditional qualifications are also considered on an individual basis.
