BSc Computing with Data Science and Big Data Technology

The BSc (Hons) Computing with Data Science and Big Data Technology develops practical computing and analytical skills for today's digital economy. Students gain expertise in programming, cloud computing, data analytics, and machine learning, preparing them for rewarding careers in data-driven industries or further study in advanced computing disciplines.

  • The BSc (Hons) Computing with Data Science and Big Data Technology combines core computing principles with specialist knowledge in data science and big data technologies. The programme develops practical skills in programming, database management, cloud computing, machine learning, and data analytics, enabling students to solve complex business and technical challenges using data-driven approaches.

Through a blend of theoretical learning, practical laboratory sessions, and project-based activities, students gain experience with industry-relevant tools and technologies used across the digital sector. The course also focuses on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and professional communication skills, preparing graduates for a wide range of careers in technology.

  • Applicants may join the programme at different stages depending on their previous qualifications. Entry to the first year typically requires 112 UCAS Tariff points, alongside GCSE English Language and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or an equivalent qualification. Students wishing to enter the second year should normally hold an HNC or another recognised Level 4 qualification in Computing or a related subject. Direct entry into the final year is available for applicants with an HND, Foundation Degree, or equivalent Level 5 qualification in Computing or Information Technology.

Applicants seeking advanced entry should also demonstrate suitable mathematical knowledge through qualifications or relevant experience. Mature applicants with appropriate professional experience may also be considered on an individual basis. International students must meet the university's English language entry requirements.
