Certificate in Higher Education in Public Health
This programme provides a strong introduction to public health and health and social care. You will develop essential knowledge, research, communication, and critical thinking skills while exploring the factors that influence health and wellbeing, preparing you for further study or a career in the health sector.

The Certificate in Higher Education in Public Health is designed for students who want to develop a strong foundation in health, wellbeing, and social care. The course introduces key public health issues and explores the social, environmental, and lifestyle factors that influence people’s health and quality of life.
Throughout the programme, you will develop important academic and professional skills, including research, critical thinking, communication, and teamwork, preparing you for further study or employment in health-related settings.
You will also learn how health and social care professionals work together to support individuals and communities while exploring different perspectives on health and wellbeing. Delivered by experienced lecturers in a supportive learning environment, the course is suitable for new learners and those already working in the sector who want to develop their knowledge and qualifications.
On completion, you will have the opportunity to progress onto a BSc (Hons) degree in Public Health or related areas.
To apply for this course, you will usually need 112 UCAS points. This can be achieved through qualifications such as A-levels (for example BBC) along with at least 5 GCSEs at grade 4/C or above, including English, Maths, and Science, or an equivalent qualification.
These entry requirements apply to progression routes into degrees such as BSc (Hons) Public Health, Health & Lifestyle Science, and Mental Health & Wellbeing. Students applying for the Public Health and Business Management pathway are expected to meet these standards so they can study alongside other degree-level students.
If you do not meet the standard entry requirements, you may still be considered. The college welcomes applications from people who can show relevant work or life experience that demonstrates they are ready for higher education.
In these cases, your application will be reviewed based on:
Relevant and substantial work experience
Your ability to succeed in academic study
A reference from an employer
Evidence of English language ability (usually CEFR Level B2 for Level 4 entry, or B1 for lower levels), confirmed through an approved test
All applications are assessed individually.
