Air Source Heat Pump Skills Bootcamp


Tailored for engineers, this bootcamp focuses on the installation and maintenance of air source heat pumps (ASHP). It meets national standards and includes a Mental Health Awareness qualification, equipping self-employed professionals with both technical skills and the knowledge to manage personal wellbeing while supporting green energy solutions.

  • This Skills Bootcamp is designed for employed or self-employed engineers seeking to enhance their skills in air source heat pump (ASHP) installation and maintenance. The course meets the requirements of the National Occupational Standard Assessment Programme, ensuring that participants gain industry-recognisedcompetence in this field.

    As part of our commitment to green skills and sustainability, the bootcamp also includes a Mental Health Awareness qualification, equipping self-employed professionals with the knowledge to manage the challenges of working alone and to promote general mental health awareness.

  • Participants must be employed or self-employed engineers.
    No prior experience with air source heat pumps is required, but a basic understanding of heating systems is recommended.

  • Duration:
    10–12 days (intensive, full-time)
    10–12 weeks (part-time option available)
    Attendance Options: Days | Evenings | Weekends

  • The bootcamp is delivered through a blended learning approach, combining classroom-based and remote sessions, with guided learning hours led by expert instructors.

  • Air Source Heat Pump Installation & Maintenance

    • Background – Understanding the drivers and barriers to ASHP adoption.

    • Introduction to Air Source Heat Pump Systems – Principles of operation and key components.

    • Regulations & Health and Safety – Complying with industry standards and safe working practices.

    • System Design – Heat sink circuits and collector circuits.

    • ASHP Installation, Testing & Commissioning – Practical, hands-on training.

    • ASHP Maintenance – Best practices for servicing and maintaining systems.

    • ASHP Fault Diagnosis & Repair – Troubleshooting and resolving common issues.

    Mental Health Awareness

    • Exploring mental health and its impact.

    • Understanding how to support individuals experiencing mental ill health.

    • Creating a mentally healthy work environment.

  • Upon successful completion of the bootcamp, learners will receive:

    • Level 3 Award in the Installation and Maintenance of Air Source Heat Pumps

    • Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Mental Health First Aid and Mental Health Advocacy in the Workplace

    These certifications enhance employability and provide a solid foundation for those wishing to specialise in renewable heating technologies within the industry.
