Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installations

This qualification develops advanced skills for aspiring electricians, focusing on electrical installation, testing, and compliance with BS 7671 standards. Learners gain hands-on experience and study electrical science, building on Level 2 knowledge. It prepares individuals for technical roles within the industry through enhanced competence and safety-focused training.

  • The Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation builds on the foundational knowledge gained in the Level 2 Diploma, equipping learners with more advanced skills and understanding necessary for a career as an electrician. Learners will gain hands-on experience in a safe environment, covering the installation and testing of electrical equipment in compliance with health and safety regulations and the latest wiring standards (BS 7671). This qualification also includes the study of electrical science and principles to support technical competency.

  • This qualification is designed primarily for 16–19-year-old learners in full-time education who have completed the Level 2 Intermediate Diploma in Electrical Installation as part of their 16–19 Study Programme. 

    It may also be suitable for adult learners or those considering a career change into electrical installation.

  • Duration: 10–12 months
    Attendance options: Days | Evenings | Weekends

  • The course is assessed through:

    • Externally set and marked examinations

    • Centre-marked assignments and practical tests

    • A final cross-unit synoptic assessment

  • The course consists of six core mandatory units:

    • Electrical Installation Design

    • Environmental Technology Systems

    • Electrical Science and Principles

    • Electrical Installation Craft

    • Inspection, Testing, and Commissioning

    • Diagnosing and Correcting Faults

    Additionally, learners will select one optional unit:

    • Overseeing and Organising the Work Environment

  • Upon successful completion of this qualification, learners will:

    • Receive the EAL Level 3 Advanced Diploma in Electrical Installation, recognised within the industry.

    • Gain the advanced knowledge and skills required to progress towards an apprenticeship or employment as an electrician.

    • Be better prepared for further qualifications, such as the NVQ Level 3 in Electrical Installation, which is necessary to achieve fully qualified status as an electrician.
